This piece began as a simple project on childhood obesity. However, after reading Ann Cooper’s book, “Lunch Lessons: Changing the Way We Feed Our Children,” I decided that the problem went much deeper than junk food and video games.

Deciding instead to address the National School Lunch Program, I designed a multi-faceted campaign that would provide parents and educators with information on how to supply healthy and affordable school lunches, and make food education part of the school curriculum. I imagined a grassroots organization called Beyond Lunch that would help parents, educators and students get involved in their daily food choices.
