Roots of the Future: College of Design Senior Show

Franchesca Rojas

Marbled Line: 2 of 4

Organic cotton knit, acrylic paint

St. Paul, MN

B.S. clothing design

The turtleneck dress, and the stand-away neckline mini are two pieces shown at the U of M senior fashion show February 2nd.  They are made from organic cotton/lycra blends and french terry cotton.  Each feature marbling: marbling fabric requires making thickened water using food thickening agents and cold and hot water, and floating watery acrylic paints on to it, creating a psychedelic, bold look; each is unique and un-replicate-able. Inspiration for this line came from self-imposed restrictions: I wanted to use marbling, I wanted the end products to be fully re-producible using my labor, (I designed them to have reasonable construction times), I chose to use mainly knits, for comfort.  Using organic fabrics make me feel good promoting a healthy product.
