Frozen Music: A Songwriter's Northwoods Hideaway

“I call architecture frozen music.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Goethe’s enduring metaphor has inspired me throughout my years as an undergraduate student studying architecture at the University of Minnesota, and has heavily influenced my latest work designing a cabin for a friend on Lake Vermillion in northern Minnesota.  Being a musician, my client needed a refuge, a place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, to reflect and write music.  Rhythm and tempo were the driving factors in designing this cabin, harmonizing to create an inspirational hideaway in the frozen north.
