Expressions Children's Theater

The project was to design a children’s theater in a second tier city in the US. We chose Austin, Texas. The Austin Children’s Theater is inspired by the integration of the grassroots movement to “keep Austin Weird” and the encouragement for children to freely express themselves. The theater extrapolates the grassroots effort through shape, form and a unique play on indoor/outdoor spaces.  These concepts unite shape and form in a radial balance which expands from the center courtyard. Overall the Children’s Theater is a space unique to both Austin and children through encouragement to express themselves and let their weird side out.
