Turn Children's Theater

The idea of turn--change, move, transform, become--guided our design of the Seattle Children’s Theater. With an emphasis on the lobby space, our design is intended to create a connection between the diverse cultures of Seattle’s International District, the child, and the theater.  Through research, we found that introducing something new by relating it to something known is vital in fostering interest in the mind of a child.  The idea of “turning” allows for a translatable concept in a child’s mind to theater performance.  The Turn Theater design emulates the metamorphosis of nature, as well as the physical movement associated with the effect of turning.
