Mimic House Theater
The children’s theater was created through the collaboration of interior design students. The location was to be within a second-tier city, Portland, Oregon was chosen. The program required the design of the entire building and layout. Focus of the design was on the lobby, with constraints of 50,000 cubic feet.
Mimic House Theater embodies a sustainable approach with an emphasis on the process of biomimicry. The design relates specifically to the Lotus Effect, and the benefits of using a system from nature to draw inspiration. Sustainability was imperative in the contextual assessment, conceptual development, and material and finish selections.
