Decorative Arts Collection
The decorative arts collection consists of approximately 2,500 objects and was initiated through the travels of Harriet and Vetta Goldstein as they gathered examples representative of good design. Ranging from Neolithic Chinese tomb wares (2500 B.C.E.) to twenty first century plastic fly swatters, the collection also features American art pottery, European and Chinese ceramics, Scandinavian design, Southwestern Native American baskets, American pressed glass and architect-designed furniture such as a Charles Eames screen and a Frank Gehry plywood chair.
The Collections are housed in climate controlled storage areas and are not on permanent public display. However they are teaching collections and the public is encouraged to utilize this unique resource.
To view objects from any of the collections areas, appointments can be scheduled one to two weeks in advance. Please call the Research Center at 612-625-2737 or email gmd@umn.edu and we will be happy to assist you.
